Endotracheal tube size estimation using ultrasonography in paediatric patients: A prospective randomized controlled study

چکیده
Endotracheal intubation (ETT) is the gold standard for airway management and one of most commonly performed procedure. Improper selection endotracheal tube it results in complications like, inadequate ventilation, poor reliability end-tidal gas monitoring, leakage anaesthetic gases into operating room environment enhanced risk aspiration. The conventional age-based formulas doesn’t reflect actual tracheal diameter tube. Hence repeated laryngoscopy often required to place an appropriate sized especially paediatric patients. Recent studies have documented that anatomical structures supraglottic, glottic subglottic regions can be evaluated by ultrasound. Therefore, present study was conducted determine size patients using ultrasound comparing with age based formula.

Nasopharyngeal tube placement in emergency intubated patients with decreased consciousness with a new guidewire: a prospective randomized controlled trial
Background: There is some demand for nasogastric tube insertion in unconscious or ICU patients. Nasogastric tubes are generally made of flexible plastic materials, prone to twisting and deviation by the tracheal tube, when passing through the pharynx and esophageal opening, making it difficult to insert the NG-tube properly. We hypothesized that NG-tube insertion with help of guidewire can sign...
متن کاملPrediction of pediatric endotracheal tube size by ultrasonography.
BACKGROUND Formulas based on age and height often fail to reliably predict the proper endotracheal tube (ETT) size in pediatric patients. We, thus, tested the hypothesis that subglottic diameter, as determined by ultrasonography, better predicts optimal ETT size than existing methods. METHODS A total of 192 patients, aged 1 month to 6 yr, who were scheduled for surgery and undergoing general ...
متن کاملCO2 driven endotracheal tube cuff control in critically ill patients: A randomized controlled study
BACKGROUND To determine the safety and clinical efficacy of an innovative integrated airway system (AnapnoGuard™ 100 system) that continuously monitors and controls the cuff pressure (Pcuff), while facilitating the aspiration of subglottic secretions (SS). METHODS This was a prospective, single centre, open-label, randomized, controlled feasibility and safety trial. The primary endpoint of th...
متن کاملMicrobial colonization of endotracheal tube in intensive care unit patients
Microbial biofilms has remained a major complication of tracheal intubation in patients requiring ventilator equipment. The aim of this study was to characterize bacterial and fungal biofilms in endotracheal tubes from intensive care unit (ICU) patients in Ahwaz, Iran. In this cross-sectional descriptive study, patients admitted to ICU that required mechanical ventilation for at least 24 hours ...
متن کاملUse of ultrasonography in confirmation of endotracheal tube position
Methods This study was conducted on 100 patients who were admitted to Critical Care Medicine Department in Alexandria Main University Hospital with an indication of endotracheal tube placement. All patients were examined by ultrasonography “linear probe” after endotracheal tube insertion. Results were compared with capnometric readings (end tidal CO2). After confirmation of endotracheal tube po...
